I Tried Colon Hydrotherapy, Here's What You Need to Know

The Proof is in the Poop (and the DMs)
Through pure Projector invitation and 4th line opportunistic connection, I had the chance to try colon hydrotherapy with Evonne at Seaside Colon Hydrotherapy last month.
The intention was super simple: to be able to speak from personal experience for any clients I thought could benefit, namely my clients with endometriosis (who often have endometrial adhesions on their bowels making it difficult or painful to digest, poop, bleed, or enjoy sex). Endometriosis is a part of Evonne's personal story that she's shared publicly - colon hydrotherapy was extremely helpful for her to improve her bowel movements (BMs) and balance her hormones.
What happened when I got to experience her support firsthand—not once, but twice—left me with a new appreciation for my digestive system, and a few surprising takeaways that I want to share with you. If you’ve ever wondered about colon health, endometriosis, or just want to normalize having poops that feel good, this is for you.
Why We Should Care About Our Colon
Our large intestine (or colon) isn’t just a “waste disposal system.” It’s a hub for our health, immunity, and even our mood. Here are some interesting points to consider:
The colon is home to trillions of bacteria, many of which are crucial for digestion and immune function.
Chronic constipation or inefficient digestion can contribute to fermentation, gas, bloating, and even systemic inflammation—and a surefire way of keeping you feeling heavy, stagnant, depressed and ungrounded.
Conditions like endometriosis and colorectal cancer have links to gut health, though diet, lifestyle, and early detection play a HUGE role. It's important to pay attention to your poops!
Fun fact: Passing gas is normal! Adults average ~13–21 farts per day, and this is actually a sign your gut bacteria are doing their job. So yes—farting can be a good thing, unless the smell in a "dutch oven" situation would make you gag.
My Colon Hydrotherapy Experience
The first time I went to colon hydrotherapy, I was nervous. The idea of flushing your colon with water sounds… intense. I mean, personally, I am not and have never been constipated. I am awoken by my sensation to go to the bathroom in the morning, and have a BM at least 1-3 times per day. BUT I do feel bloated and gassy at times. I was also experiencing a more global acne breakout across my face before my first time, which happens when I know my body isn't clearing something well.
I was honestly just curious how this was going to go for me during AND afterwards. Luckily, the first session was surprisingly gentle and deeply relaxing.
Evonne did a marvelous job of walking me through each step, placing the lubed-up plastic insert into my rectum (at the pace my anal sphincters would allow, despite both of our eagerness!!), massaging my colon AND my liver, and checking in with me and my sensations regularly.
Here's what came through me (if you're sensitive to visuals, don't press play on the video below!)
To my genuine surprise, FOOD came out of my colon. Food shouldn't necessarily be there, because it should have been broken down by either my teeth, my stomach, and my small intestines. This was hugely enlightening, more on this in a second.
Afterward, I felt:
Lighter and less bloated
More aware of my digestive patterns
Motivated to pay closer attention to how I eat
I noted how I was really hungry immediately after (I did have breakfast, colonic was at noon) and wanted to follow a protocol of introducing whole foods into my diet, beginning with bone broth. I tried stopping in at a local restaurant, Nectarine Grove, where they serve it, but they didn't have it in stock that particular day. I then noticed that I was really only craving one thing on their menu: BBQ chicken pizza.
Full transparency: I ate two slices, with careful consideration of each bite. Evonne advised that I may or may not have a bowel movement the day after my session, and if I did, that would be best case scenario! Turned out that the next day, I had one upon waking, and it felt like leftover sludge moving out of me.
I was honestly proud of how my colon has been doing its job, and even after the colon hydrotherapy session, it was moving things a long. Now the next experiment would be where my biggest insight came through.
The second session a week later reinforced these feelings because of this one key insight that I want to share with you.
The Big Takeaway: Chew Your Food
Here’s the simple truth: chewing your food thoroughly can prevent fermentation in your colon.
When we swallow large chunks of food, our body has to work harder to break it down. If it reaches the large intestine still partially undigested, bacteria ferment it, creating gas, bloating, and sometimes irregular bowel movements. Chewing well = less work for your colon, less fermentation, and smoother elimination.
The week in between my sessions, I focused heavily on chewing my food until it was MUSH in my mouth, starting with that BBQ chicken pizza. I realized I really had not been doing that at all, and was often in a rush to eat so I could move on to the next part of my day. After getting my pizza "fix" I focused on drinking and eating nutrient dense foods, with a sprinkle of comfort food:
bone broth (I eventually made some chicken broth from scratch)
a lentil carrot onion soup
smoothies: 1 banana, Greek yogurt, almond butter, and 2 dates
steak + harvest salad: arugula, apple, avocado, prosciutto, feta, pecans, ACV dressing
Mac 'n' cheese from scratch
baked white fish and mussels
hummus and vegetables
eggs, spinach, and chicken sausage
(in the spirit of full disclosure) my morning coffee + oat milk + honey + cinnamon
I was so excited to test my theory of how chewing would make all the difference (spoiler: it did!). I wish I got a video of what came through in the second session, but what I did capture instead (on Monday 12/1/25) is a picture of one of my more perfect poops (sorry not sorry if this isn't your jam, but damnit I'm proud to share!). Perfect in its shape (snake) and smooth texture (not jagged or loose):
Since this more recent session, where Evonne challenged me to chew my food into PASTE in my mouth (instead of just mush), I've been telling everyone about chewing their food more, including family at Thanksgiving. I'm not sure if people have noticed any differences for themselves, but I sure am noticing my own: more complete bowel movements being the biggest change.
Normalizing Poop
What’s considered “normal”? The truth may surprise you:
1–3 times per day OR 3 times per week can both be healthy, depending on your body.
Stool should ideally be soft, formed, and easy to pass (no straining or discomfort), snake-like and smooth (see above for an example).
Frequent bloating, irregularity, constipation or discomfort can indicate you need to adjust hydration, fiber, or chewing habits (take my Constipation Class and learn how to let shit go for good!)
Simple Practices to Support Your Colon
Here’s what I’m integrating into my daily life after hydrotherapy:
Chew slowly and completely – aim for 20–30 chews per bite.
Hydrate consistently – water supports smooth digestion. I'm aiming for 64oz per day based on my weight and activity levels.
Fiber diversity – include fruits, vegetables, and whole grains for healthy transit.
Move your body – gentle exercise stimulates peristalsis. My rotation practice I do with my coach and on my own time have significantly toned my core and invite easeful digestion.
Track your poops – noticing frequency, consistency, and ease helps you tune in to what your colon needs. I'd also ask yourself: does having a squatty potty stool while going or a proper breathing practice help? Do you need your daily coffee/caffeine to get your gut going?
Final Thoughts
Colon hydrotherapy isn’t a magic cure, but it’s an eye-opening tool that made me more mindful of my digestion and even my other detox pathways (skin and liver). The biggest shift? Chewing my food with intention. That small change can transform bloating, gas, and even energy levels throughout the day.
I know I'm not alone in experiencing its effects. The ladies in my Instagram DMs agree with me:
Your colon is powerful, and giving it the attention it deserves—through mindful eating, hydration, and movement—can make a world of difference. THE PROOF IS IN THE POOP!
